Course Overview:

This comprehensive course provides participants with a thorough understanding of the fundamental concepts of gender equality and women’s empowerment. It explores the social, economic, political, and cultural dimensions of gender inequality and examines various strategies and approaches for promoting gender equality and empowering women at individual, community, and societal levels. Through interactive discussions, case studies, practical exercises, and group work, participants will develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to become effective advocates and agents of change for gender equality.

Course Objectives:

Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Define and differentiate between key concepts related to gender, sex, gender equality, equity, and women’s empowerment.
  • Analyze the root causes and manifestations of gender inequality and discrimination across various contexts.
  • Understand the historical and contemporary global and regional frameworks for gender equality and women’s rights.
  • Examine the interconnectedness of gender equality with other development issues, such as poverty reduction, health, education, and peacebuilding.
  • Identify and critically evaluate different approaches and strategies for women’s economic, social, and political empowerment.
  • Develop practical skills in gender analysis, gender mainstreaming, and the design and implementation of gender-sensitive programs and policies.
  • Understand the role of various stakeholders, including governments, civil society organizations, the private sector, and individuals, in advancing gender equality.
  • Recognize and address gender biases and stereotypes in personal and professional settings.
